Most people come home from a Disney vacation with a pair of Mickey Mouse ears.
Madalyn Monaghan returned home to death threats made by virtual vultures, who were outraged that the mother-of-two visited the Florida-based oasis without a brood.
“I had people messaging me on Instagram saying really dark and mean things,” Monaghan, 30, a married mother of an 11-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son, told The Post. “Threatening my life”.
But doing Disney without children is not a capital crime against children.
Instead, it’s a holiday trend among moms and dads who don’t mind leaving their little rogues behind for some “time” around Cinderella’s castle.
Taking a short break from parenting, whether in the Caribbean or on a Pirates of the Caribbean cruise, can be a valuable measure to avoid burnout.Â
It’s that overwhelming feeling of stress, anxiety and exhaustion that plagues 57% of moms and dads nationwide, according to a May study from Ohio State University.
But the crushing state of mind doesn’t just affect overtaxed adults.
The researchers also found that children are likely to experience emotional and behavioral harm due to mom and dad’s grumpy disposition.
So parents, near and far, are doing their best to avoid chaos.
While some New York City moms delegate some of their most stressful tasks to a team of hired house managers to avoid burnout, other moms in the Big Apple and beyond are microdosing psychedelics, or “magic” mushrooms, for a healthy small minded. TRAVELS.
Monaghan, however, prefers to take actual trips to the Magic Kingdom.
“It’s free to go to Disney World without the kids and have a good time and let loose,” Millennial, a travel influencer from Charleston, South Carolina, told The Post.
It made its first unladen trip to the enchanted terrain in August. The mother shared a video of herself drinking and dancing to the beat of her free-wheeling drum on social media. But her seemingly innocuous Instagram post made Monaghan the subject of internet ire.
Disapproving detractors labeled her “out of touch” and considered her “the worst mother in the world.”
But Monaghan’s four-day getaway – a break she doesn’t regret, despite backlash – came just after she and her husband treated their brood to a two-week tour of Europe, where the little ones were they pleased EuroDisney.
“My kids go to Disney a lot,” she said with a laugh. “As a mother, you’re almost always focusing on everyone else and putting yourself last.”
“It’s nice to be like, ‘You know what? You’re putting me first this time
Andy and Liz Sutherland, both 41, agree.
The Tennessee couple says their “romantic time” at Disney works wonders for the whole family.
“We’re not dealing with strollers, nobody’s asking you to buy anything, we’re just bonding as husband and wife,” said Liz, a mother of two daughters and a foster son. .
“Taking care of our marriage benefits our kids a lot,” the Nashvillian added. Alone in Disney together, she and Andy, both travel agents, often have wonderful dinners and snuggle up side by side on the Guardians of the Galaxy ride. “It’s like an extended date night.â€
But in September, when the couple shared a video on Facebook of them living it up in Mickey Mouse’s house while their brood was back home, a volcano of flames erupted.
“Someone suggested that our daughters cut our throats in our sleep,” recalls Liz. “They said the kids should grow up to hate us.”
The wild taunts, however, aren’t stopping the pair from doing Disney as a duo again.
“Going to Disney makes you feel like a kid again,” Andy said. “Totally worth it
Ashely Aiello, 41, tells The Post child-free trips to Disneyland with husband Chris keep her marriage hot.
“I never get to spend time with him when we take our kids to Disney,” said the mother of two teenagers, lamenting the lack of time she spends with Chris when they vacation as a family.
“Experiencing that magic — the sounds, the smells, the rides, the bars — with your lover is truly amazing,” she continued.
The four Aiellos, a quartet based in Indianapolis, Indiana, hit Tokyo Disney earlier this year. But Ashley, a lifestyle content creator, and Chris took a romantic getaway to Disney in Anaheim, Calif., last July.Â
The couple roams the free and uneventful grounds, zipping around on the Incredicoaster, dining at the Blue Bayou Restaurant and drinking spirits at the Enchanted Rose Lounge.
“We get a lot of hate online for going to Disney without our kids,” Ashely said. “But [trips like this are] important for a healthy happy marriage.
“Haters can’t dim our shine.”
